I love the Kansas City Zoo. Up until this year, I had not been to the zoo since the late 1990s. I visited twice in the '90s. Before that, it was probably the late '70s or early '80s. Much has improved at the zoo since I was a child. I have been to the zoo four times this year. I am excited about the changes I see at the zoo. I can't wait for Penguin Plaza to open! I am glad that the zoo is moving animals in closer. As a photographer, it can be quite a challenge to photograph many of the animals! To those complaining about the look of some of the newer exhibits, you have probably not stepped inside the Kansas City Zoo. I like the polar bear's exhibit. You can view the polar bear from many angles. I am a FOTZ member so I can go anytime to the zoo for free.

I am a FOTZ member and have been to the zoo hundreds of times in recent years (though less this year due to other interests). The zoo of the early 90's and before was mediocre and cannot be compared with any decent modern zoo. It took some great leaps forward, especially with the outstanding Africa section. However, in recent years, a new emphasis on the playground aspect have taken hold, and the exhibits are no where near the quality of Africa. They are meant to entertain children. There is nothing wrong with the polar bear exhibit, but it is rather bland. The new tiger exhibit is better, but far from excellent. I think KC should improve about a half dozen poor exhibits (especially orangs) before they work on what will surely be another cookie-cutter penguin exhibit.
