circa 2000?
Thank you both David and snowleopard for the very thorough run-down of the North American aviaries. Sounds like a pretty decent bird collection.

They have very good North American desert and East African savanna bird collections. For birders the wild birds all over the gardens of the desert are a real treat too. I've seen verdins, phainopeplas, cactus wren, covies of Gambel's quail, and many other species. They have a hiking trail that goes through many acres of wild desert habitat.

18 years later and the zoo is just getting to building the Lion and rhino expansions, as well as a Common Hippo enclosure.

A little saddened to see they held Wildcats not too long ago but no longer.

The above plan continues to evolve. There is now an Australian exhibit complex with emus, budgies, yellow-footed rock wallabies, and several other herp and bird species in the area identified as retail nursery. There is an expansive new entry complex in the zone marked entry courtyard. The new lion, spotted hyena, and black rhino complex is designed and in the pipeline as of 2020.

Overall this plan pretty closely resembles what actually has been built since 2000.
