This photo shows one of the outdoor orang-utan exhibits at Melbourne Zoo. On the day I visited there were two orang-utans in here in the morning but later on there were a family of siamangs.
I think it's a believable amount...They needed to clear the area build a double storey building for viewing areas, an indoor day room and holding areas which would have cost somewhere in the millions alone. Plus a massive netted exhibit with netting durable enough to hold an adult male orang-utan, all of the specially made sway poles and transplanting live palms from other parts of the zoo. Also 15% of the costs were on design so that would be a large sum in itself just for design.
