Musk Ox Exhibit, Part I - Minnesota Zoo

July 1st, 2008. One half of the enormous musk ox enclosure at the zoo. The habitat had a large lake in the centre that was surrounded by land, and must have been at least 5 acres in size. A single musk ox can be seen in the bottom right-hand side of the photo.

That is too bad that musk-oxen are being phased out of there. I saw the master plan and was bummed to see that they wanted to add an African section. Normally I like those, but I liked that this zoo focused on cold weather species.

Not only are the musk-oxen going to be replaced by a slew of African hoofstock (antelope, zebra, giraffe, rhino) but the monorail in this photo will be dismantled. There are simply not enough visitors who use the aging structure. On a side note, the 74-page Master Plan is a fantastic document and one that I've glanced through many times as the future is bright for this facility that already attracts 1.3 million annual visitors.

@BrandonJCruz26 I like the fact that Minnesota specialized in cold-climate animals, I would prefer Minnesota goes more into those species rather than the common tropical animals every zoo has.
