Aussies may take echidnas for granted. Mr May, for many years a sponsor of one of Taronga's Long-beaked Echidnas when it was in London, most certainly does not!!
Kept looking for these today but they didn't come out once whilst I was there! I did see some movement under the leaves but that was as close as I got!

That was unfortunate; I returned to the echidna exhibit numerous times before I was lucky enough to get a good view of one.
Since you've been more recently than me, is the enclosure labelled bear cuscus, spotted cuscus and brown dorcopsis occupied yet? It was empty when I was there.

just out of interest, which is more desirable to see? The echidna or the bear cuscus? For me I would choose the bear cuscus! (But like Hix I have seen a lot of echidnas).

Currently the enclosure has a young cassowary in! There is also another in the enclosure to the right where the clouded leopard cub is. Apparently they are a pair but time will tell
Also the Fanaloka was spending a lot of time inside the nestbox I brought this up with one of the keepers who hopes that the fanaloka may be pregnant!

Many thanks for the update; I knew that there were young cassowaries in the collection but none were on display on my visit. Young fanalokas would be great........although when I was there in August 2011 they spent almost all day hidden the nest box too.
Since you’ve not mentioned them, I assume that the tarsiers are still not on exhibit?

no tarsiers I don't think they will be on display tbh, apparently the pairs are getting on very well though. Also they are looking to add giant otters to the collection
