Unfortunately the UK herds seem to have been dwindling of late, certainly those at Howletts, Chester and Whipsnade (possibly extinct there). The baton seems to have passed to the Safari Parks for keeping this species with West Midlands now having the only sizeable herd I think.
The same seem to be true for Nilgai too. Off the top of my head I can't think of another non-safaripark collection that maintains the species now unless there are still some at Whipsnade and Howletts.
I like this species and wish there were more about. Its a shame they're one of those plentiful species that are unfashionable in captivity because of it.
