no idea, that is just my supposition. They don't like hot weather but they don't like cold weather either. At Dryandra in Western Australia they are only active in the morning and late afternoon during summer (it gets REALLY hot there!), but for most of the day during the cooler months -- but it never gets as cold there as it would at Healesville. Interestingly enough, numbats use torpor to conserve energy when they can't be active in colder weather.
