@drzoomi: Why not also add Singapore Zoo and some South American and West Indian institutions, too? All in all less than 20 institutions worldwide keeping West Indian Manatees in comparison to what? >5-600 zoos/aquariums worldwide NOT keeping them? Sorry, but given that ratio, you can't really talk of "many" manatees in captivity- or consider West Indian manatees a common zoo species.
And if you want to compare Dugongs to the other two manatee species, then one could say that there are "many" Dugongs in captivity-at least "quite a lot" more than African or Amazonian manatees. ;P

It was quite clear to me (and I suspect to 2034 other zoochat members) what you meant.
Barranquilla in Colombia has manatees. Zoos in China and Mexico (in North America) have also kept manatees in the past but I don't know what the status is currently.
I was trying to be nice and didnt want to answer you, but COME ON, If you want to show off your knowledge that's great but you have to be so rude and "show off"?

drzoomi, I´m guessing that most people here at ZooChat very much enjoy your input to the site, not least all of your interesting pictures in the gallery.
My intention for the mild correction was neither a rude urge to "show off" nor to upset you, @drzoomi-in fact, such wrongful allegations are just as likely to pique me as Dan's senseless hectoring. I was just interested to point out that the number of (West Indian) manatees in captivity is not as large as you assumed.
