Seems heavily pregnant to me Tim.

I agree that this onager appears to be pregnant; this has been the subject of speculation on several other ZooChat photos of the Whipsnade onagers (including a photograph that I posted last year).

However, I have been reliably informed by a keeper that the onager is not pregnant.

Any joy snapping the Thommies?

Unfortunately, I didn’t see the Thomson’s gazelles on my visit yesterday.

Many desert or dry habitat species like onagers or desert antelopes kept year round on GRASS floors, what is widespread in britain, but of course also in germyn, tend to be fat, and have fur problems, and in the case of antelops, deformed horns.

So I've never seen more worse looking scimitar horned oryx and arabian oryx than at Marwell Zoo, to name one example.

Did you see the Blackbuck? If so, is the original single male in with the new females now?

The female blackbuck are in an enclosure behind the nilgai paddock that provides limited viewing opportunities.

I looked for the male blackbuck but didn’t see him; however, it is hard to get a good view of that enclosure......

So out of all the zoos you've been to with oryx exhibits these are the enclosures are the worst? Husbandry wise I can't fault them but you think they are awful! How exactly are they awful? You are a seasoned zoo-goer, I know you've seen ooryx paddocks far worse than this, I think you may be exagerating slightly! ;)

1. I havn't named any oryx paddock in my post above"awul". But as you could read in my post above, I said it isn't good to keep desert or dry habitat species on grass floor.
2. How can you know if or I 've seen more worse oryx paddocks, and, more worse than what ?
3.Sorry, but I'm not exagerte slightly, see points one and two;)

I interpreted Bib's comment to mean "I've never seen more worse looking scimitar horned oryx and arabian oryx than at Marwell Zoo".... given that that is exactly what he wrote. He didn't mention the paddocks other than the general comment about keeping desert ungulates on grass.

Exactly- he was referring to the horn growth etc due to rich feeding from grass paddocks, not the quality of enclosure housing. Though nearly all Scimitar -horned Oryx herds in UK live on grass at least some of the year, so not sure why he singled out Marwell. Of course some horn deformaties are also due to accidental damage etc and its not always easy to differentiate. Fat non-pregnant Onagers is a different matter though.;)

I imagine you would have noticed him- but maybe he is still alone in Asian Plains? (if he is still alive that is.) Curious if he hasn't been added yet.
