It is about as far removed from how Orangutans live in the wild as you could possibly get. Obviously all Orangutan enclosures in Zoos are unnatural in some way or other, but this is one of the more extreme, at least as far as modern enclosures are concerned.
My chief criticism is the sunken-'pit-like' setting giving them virtually no vista or outlook. Had it been built on flatter or more open ground elsewhere in the Zoo, I would be far less critical- the actual furnishings-the climbing frames, rockwork etc are rather ugly, but less of a concern IMO.
