So the pelicans must approve of the Paultons aviary, if they are laying fertile eggs. So how many were reared this year & last? Anywhere?
Last year I believe they had 3 eggs 2 of which went to Longleat and 1 which stayed at Paultons and was hand-reared by the staff there,i saw the resulting youngster while it was off-show when i visited in March 2010,while catching up with the Head Keeper at Paultons.

Out of interest scimitar, you said you weren't a Longleat keeper but use 'we' a lot, what role do you have there?

Thanks for the info Zoogiraffe; so Paultons reared one youngster from their own eggs, & sent two eggs to Longleat. How many did Longleat rear?

I'm interested in that as well, considering he's still at school!!! The comment he made about researching pelicans and their breeding for years appears to be intended to make himself sound like he actually knows what he's talking about lol

i think we hand rear our own eggs . where did you hear this from ??
Did you read my post or not as i think its pretty clear where i got my info from well just to spell it out for you again,Where did i hear this from the Head Keeper from Paultons Park while he was showing me the chick that they had hand reared the year before,so unless you can prove to me differently i will believe a well respected and trusted zoo professional that i have known for over 10 years!!
As for where the Pink-backed Pelicans at Paultons came from yes some of them did come from Longleat BUT NOT ALL OF THEM!

i know alot of people there i am always there and i live very close to it. you also say we when you talk about marwell zambar:cool:

... No I don't. :/ I live close to and know a few members of staff and volunteering at both Marwell and the NFWP as well, but I don't talk as if I am part of the operation as you can give out the wrong message, which is surprisingly easy to do on a site like this.
