The outdoor island for bonobos (Pan paniscus) in the African Area in Planckendael. A 3000 m2 large and very green island with a few climbing frames spread around. There are also many shrubberies with small trees and large bushes spread around the island that the bonobos have full access to (except for one large tree that is hotwired).

Planckendael, July 2011.
^however, as much as antwerp is the most famours and well established zoo in belgium, it is not located in or near the capital, so it is not the national zoo.

@Shirokuma, what other capitals can you think of that done have a zoo?

So, what is a "national zoo" anyway? Just because a zoo isn't located in the capital doesn't mean it isn't better than the one that is. I think that the only "national zoo" in the world is the one in Washington D.C. and that is only because that is its name.

Regarding other capitals neither Oslo nor Athens have zoos.

We have a National Zoo in Australia but it certainly isn't the biggest or the best zoo there. It's just a private zoo in the capital that claimed the name first.

Excatly! Or maybe Parc Mervilleux in Luxembourg or Reykjavik Zoo & Family Park in Iceland are the only rightful "national zoos" as they are the only ones in their countries :p

Just to clarify, I meant National zoo by the Zoo located in the Capital!:P, and toddy, there if a zoo in athens, and a quick google search should bring It up:)
