Inukshuk (M) followed Aurora (F) over to the small pool. She went in and they nodded back and forth at each other before he jumped in too. After rolling around in the water together Aurora climbed out and went back over the hill, Inukshuk following.
One of the two females (I think it's Nikita) prefers to roll around in the dirt rather than swim. I've seen all 3 bears in the grass yard on many of my visits. On one of my recent visits, I discovered that the bears can actually walk down into the deep moat of the grass exhibit with absolutely no problems. On this occasion, I watched both females go down in an area near the back of the exhibit by the pool and then come back up by the rock cave at the front of the exhibit. As far as I know, all three bears have been on exhibit recently, so I would guess if you can't find a bear, it might be in the moat.
Yes, the male, Inukshuk, strolls up the side of the moat as if it was level ground.
The sun on the hill of the grass yard, and lower down, on the reindeer side, is a good place for a nap.
(anthropomorphism alert - sorry)
On this day Inukshuk and Aurora seemed to be having date night at the spa. He followed her around the moat, up the side, over to the pool, into the pool, out, and up over the hill out of my sight. I didn't go around - they should have some privacy.
Considering breeding season might not quiet be over for them or at least Inukshuk he was probably hoping to get lucky. Until his hormones return to normal he really just has one thing on his mind.
