I never understood why they would invest so much money on netting pinniped exhibits. I get that people are idiotic and toss objects in the water or at the animals. Which is sad. Why not spend less and create a covered viewing shelter with either glass or mesh at viewing areas? I don't see all the costs of structural engineers and so on just to prevent an incident that may or may not happen. A covered shelter at the viewing area(s) is surely cheaper than all of the above in the photo.
