@SwampDonkey thank you very much for the write up. I had no idea they also had a skyride as I saw no evidence of its existence.
I am not surprised that the condition of the construction/materials lead to its undoing; the African Pavilion at the NC Zoo met a similar fate, where deterioration of the structure and issues with water leaking in staff/animal holding areas, from what I've heard, lead the zoo to close it.
Just a slight correction; the zoo still has Red River Hogs.
I feel a lion exhibit would be a really good fit for this spot, assuming they do intend to develop this spot.
@Astrotom3000 can you confirm they have RR hogs? They have been taken off of the maps and they were not on exhibit when I was there last Saturday. I would like very much for them to still be there, they are my favorite hog species. I have messaged them, but I have not received a reply back yet.
Lion would be great, I would really love to see them again, or if they could hold cheetah again instead. Either one would be great.
Yeah, the skyride was a loop that ran from Safari Africa to the Indian rhino habitat and back. It boarded and disembarked about where the Safari Africa bus ride is at now. Interestingly, the skyride was on the original zoo Master Plan as well.
@Astrotom3000 no doubt, it was just that the date on the picture showed January, whereas my visit was last weekend. But with your picture and the confirmation from the zoo themselves, there is certainly no doubt.
