To be fair, I wouldn't have gone *just* to stop you getting species over me. Magdeburg was to try and see the marbled polecat, which although I had seen fleetingly before I had no photos of, and that was an obsession species for that reason (as I don't officially count what I haven't photographed, I couldn't list it which really was bugging me ). As for Leipzig, there is no denying the main reason was the pangolin, but seeing as I've wanted to see these since I had my copy of Usborne's "the Great Animal Search" in primary school, you can hardly say I only went so you didn't get anything over me. My admission is I may have done Leipzig separately at a later date, as I am not a confident traveller so would have been unlikely to use the trains without being part of a group as we were. Besides, we all had a nice time
We did indeed sadly the Marbled Polecat at Nuremberg died a while ago, so I didn't see the taxon again this year - so I reckon Magdeburg was the last chance for both of us.

And do we have to treat them dying out as a foregone conclusion? Wait and see what happens - with one or two notable exceptions a surprise is always possible. That said, if there's something getting rarer that you want to see - go for it if you can.
Plzen (and Prague) is possibly on the cards for this time next year actually but it's less disappointing to run on the assumption that seeing the taxon again is unlikely than it is to expect to do so again. Of course, I am sure you can guess what I *really* want to see at Plzen.......
Well, I finally reached Plzen..... but too late for the Saharan Striped Weasels
On the other hand, I got to Chomutov today and finally saw Siberian Weasel - so I am damn pleased got Jungle Cat yesterday at Jihlava too, another longtime target species.
