Just - what? Trying to excuse a pretty ugly exhibit?

The number of reasons I can't believe they've put this up grows every time I read it. They seem to be having a go both at other zoos and at their own other exhibits - the new leopard exhibit is Ussuri Falls. Incomprehensible.
.... in the Ugiest enclosure.

I really must say that the powers- that- be- here must be totally lacking in aethsetic appreciation- can they not see how HIDEOUSLY UGLY this enclosure is???? As they are trying to emphasis with this silly notice, Geladas are a truly dramatic looking species- so why not feature them in a more natural looking enclosure- but you could say that about a lot of Colchester enclosures.

This is a funny sign!!

I've never notised it before. But why stick up a completely stupid sign????

Is Colchester the only zoo where the staff go in with the Geladas, or is it the exception? I'm wondering if the dominant male was hand-reared or has a particularly calm temperment, hence the slight emotional attachment in the above sign...?

Geladas are often very calm and easy going with keepers. It's common that staff enter the enclosures. One zoo in Germany even takes special visitor groups inside with their breeding group.
