Male, Bernardo is currently mixed with both females (the female pictured is the older female, Franka) in the hope of producing Chester's first breeding of the species in 2016 - 22 March 2015
I remember reading many years ago about an elderly Brown Bear who was "retired" from London Zoo to Whipsnade, who then surprised everyone by having cubs! Never say never! Fingers crossed..... it would be nice for the team at Chester to have a bit of good news with this species for a change.
