The big nandu birds appear rather aggressive...

... and I often notice them chasing the little Patagonian cavy around the Pampas exhibit at Copenhagen Zoo. Not sure that this is really a good mix.

Here in Idaho, we have lots and lots of wapiti roaming the countryside, but I'd bet that fewer than 1 in a hundred people you ask would know them as that. As far as most people within the animals home range, they are elk, plain and simple.

My mistake, as could be expected :p. Nandu is indeed the Danish name for this bird and rhea the English name. I misread the signs by the exhibit.....

Good pic, ...talking about the animals names question: Ñandu it´s the correct name in Spanish too, with the only change of "n" by "ñ" or "ny" if you can't see "ñ"

Males rheas are normally aggressive towards other exhibit-mates.

I have never experienced this. They have always been aggressive towards keepers and other males though...

I've seen male rheas harass maras, capybaras, llamas, and keepers, too. They just seem to be more aggressive in general, and the hens are normally calmer and friendlier.
