    Reptile park in Victoria

Hi guys, I’m relatively new to the idea of building a zoo/wildlife park… though I’ve been thinking about it deeply for the past few months. I have a few questions but firstly I’ll run you guys through my thinking process. I have a lot of respect for the work that Australian zoos/parks do with...

    Australasian Zebra Population

This list aims to record the births, deaths and transfers of the region's Zebra (Equus Quagga). All of the zebra currently in the region have been born in either Australia or New Zealand. The last individual imported outside of the region was a pure male Chapmans zebra from Singapore in 1997...

    Australasian Zebra Population - Research/Discussion

I thought this thread would be handy to help in my research on the region's Zebra population which I have been delving into over the past few months. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find all the information and that's where this thread comes in - hopefully some of you will be able to share...

    Tips on becoming a zookeeper

Hello! So I've been fascinated with animals since I was a little kid and I've always wanted to work with animals. My absolute biggest dream in life is to become a zookeeper. I'm currently doing a Certificate 2 in Animal Studies and I'll be doing a Certificate 3 in Captive Animal Management...

The Australian Rhino Project - South African Import (Discussion)

Introduction I thought it’d be good to have a thread dedicated to discussion of this import since it will be a large scale, ongoing event across the next three years; to avoid clogging up the news threads of the zoos involved; and to avoid taking over the rhinoceros population thread, which as...

    Australasian Zoos - Giraffe Histories

In this thread, i'll be posting complete histories for each zoo that has held/or holds Giraffes in our region. I figured a whole overall thread would be better than making multiple (for each zoo). I plan to also make these kind of threads for other species so stay tuned. First up will be...

    ZAA Species List Index

ZAA Species List Index Introduction: Given how many species lists we’ve created between us for our region’s zoos, wildlife parks and aquariums, I thought it would be helpful to have these listed in an index for easy access. In some cases, we have multiple species listed for a facility - which...

    Upcoming exhibits in Australasia

I’ve complied a comprehensive list of all the upcoming exhibits within Australasia that are planned for the next few years. Feel free to add any i’ve missed, as I’ve only managed to cover fhe well known projects, and some of the smaller exhibit plans. 2022 Wild Africa - Monarto Safari Park...

Why are most Australian mammals rare outside of Australian Zoos?

In non-Australian Zoos, I almost always only see very few and always the same few species of Australian mammals (Red Kangaroo, Eastern/Western Grey Kangaroo, Koala). Why are other ones such as Numbat, Tasmanian Devil, Wombat, Quokka, etc rarely or never exhibited outside of Australian institutions?

Which country has achieved more in conservation: Australia or New Zealaand?

I was thinking about this question the other day, and wanted to get the opinion of zoochatters on the issue. Which country has achieved more in the conservation of biodiversity (both species and ecosystem conservation and in-situ and ex--situ) over the past half a century, Australia or New...

    Capricorn Safari Park

This time, we go down to a brand new Safari Park (haven't made one of those in ages) in the Northern Territory, Australia, with a (rather speculative) handful of unique species imported from European collections. Species and amenity list in the comments.

    Captive Polar Bear History Australia

Hello, I am currently researching the history of Polar Bear Captivity in Australia which appears to date back to the late 1800's. I have read other forums that provide some historical Taronga Zoo information, however am very keen to learn more about the following: How PB's first came to...

Drone Surveys Show Thousands of Sea Turtles off Australian Island

This is slightly older in terms of data (2017) but the paper was only published a bit over a month ago. The 2017 estimate of 64,000 Green Sea Turtles off the island is impressive either way. Article: 64,000 Sea Turtles Recorded Off The Coast of Australia | Reef Builders | The Reef and Saltwater...
