I have spent much of the last week wondering about the Berlin zoo which I would very much like to visit one day. I have seen may of the pictures and reviews here on ZC, but I was wondering a much more simple question: What is it like? Not a full in depth review, but just what in general could I...
I know there have been threads before of the best cities for zoos, however those are all mostly subjective. I know that the number of species is not the best indicator of quality, however, looking at Shedd and Berlin, I somewhat question that.
Nonetheless, I was noticing that some cities in...
Following an interesting point made by @TeaLovingDave in thread about Tasmanian devil breeding, I started to wonder which zoo in your opinions is the best for in-situ conservation efforts? Many zoos have extensive programs but inside and out of their locational country, so which one is best?
Of...
This thread by @The_UltimateBea is called "The Best Zoological City". Different ZooChatters suggested what city they think is the best for zoo nerds. That got me thinking, if there was poll, which city would be voted the highest. So here it is. Each city suggested in that thread has an option on...
Of course, I am talking about Germany, specifically Berlin. I am travelling with my family so I am limited to one day at each zoo which I have already been told probably isn't enough but I can make compromises and priorities. I am arriving on the evening of the 18th but I leave in the afternoon...

A little update on the gerenuk situation in Berlin at the moment,
(this is a translation from Facebook (good luck))
A special treasure of the zoos Berlin are the Southern Giraffes Gazelles (lit comenius ocra wal leri wal leri).
Since 2013 they have been in the livestock, 2015 then the...
Hi guys,
Quick question; anyone know if Yala's baby (Berlin Zoological Garden) and Lingala's baby (La Vallee des Singes) have been named yet, and if so what they are called? Last I checked we knew that they were both girls, but no names...?
Many thanks :)
I have a couple of questions about the cities rhinos;
Has either collection bred from their respective southern white rhino?
Will the zoo be keeping their Indian rhino long term or will they be concentrating on their very successful black rhino group only?
and where does this leave the...
Because I did not find the link around here, there are some first impressions to be found of what changes at Tierpark will happen.
It includes the show-arena, the entrance, playgrounds and the Alfred-Brehm-Haus, once the biggest carnivore house in the world with a tropical hall in the middle...
A major new arrival, not just for the Tierpark, but for the whole of Europe is the import of 2.5 Chacoan peccaries from the USA.
The animals arrived in Berlin, in March and came from animals from the breeding groups in Los Angeles, San Diego, Phoenix and Sedgwick.

I found this article which seems to me to lay out a masterplan for the next 15 or so years for the tierpark.
Highlights include:
A renovation for the polar bear enclosure
A Galapagos experience
New scientific facilities
An underwater world for manatees
A farm experience
A boat ride to...
