[December 2019] Big Cat Country- jaguar walking

This ended up being a really short visit and it was really crowded (it was about 75 degrees in December) so literally this and the other jaguar photo are the only photos I took that day that I feel are worth putting here.

[December 2020] Big Cat Country- snow leopard (Panthera uncia) portrait

One of the few times I actually utilized the fence as a composition element rather than desperately avoiding having it in the frame. I believe this individual had some kind of condition, because it was cross-eyed (as you can see) and was trembling. I don't have any information about it, though.

[December 2020] Big Cat Country- lion (Panthera leo) lying

I have so many photos of the lions from this visit that I love but I had to go with this one because of how powerful and regal he looks in it. This is Ingozi. You'd never know from this photo, but he's actually small for a male lion. His mate, Cabara is actually a bit larger than he is.

The late Waldemere was making some very silly expressions during his nap.

Not a huge fan of how prominent the fence is in this shot but I loved its expression so much. Maybe one day I'll get around to photoshopping all that fence out but this is what we have for now.

[May 2021] Big Cat Country- snow leopard (Panthera uncia)

I was so excited to get such an expressive shot of one of my favorite animals.

[May 2021] Big Cat Country- lion (Panthera leo) walking

I really love how lush the vegetation in this shot looks. I think it really brings some liveliness into the photo.
  10. [May 2021] Big Cat Country- Amur leopard

[May 2021] Big Cat Country- Amur leopard

This leopard sat around these leaves for a while and I thought it was such a serene scene. I suppose its ironic for such a fierce animal, but I think it made for a nice portrait style shot.

[May 2021] Big Cat Country- Jaguar (Panthera onca) walking

I thought having the leaves in front of the jaguar was cool because it makes it look secretive and sneaky- quite appropriate for an animal like this.
  12. [December 2021] Amur leopard (Panthera pardus orientalis) snarling

[December 2021] Amur leopard (Panthera pardus orientalis) snarling

Dorothy ("Dot") was strangely active for a cat during this visit. I ended up spending a lot of time with her.

This is Dorothy ("Dot"), the zoo's female Amur leopard, now mother to Anya and Irina. The glowing light looked beautiful on her fur.

Several cages were built in 1967 to the south of the cat house, to house the jaguars which were thought unsuitable to be housed in the main cat house. They were demolished in 1985 to make way for the Axis Deer Enclosure.
