Usually I to visit the zoo on Christmas eve, but the 18th was the closest to Christmas that I could go to.

This is the site concept for the zoo, made once the site had been selected but before construction started. The "Phase 2" sections never did come to fruition, but the rest of the site is fairly recognizable.

These jaguars have since passed on after living a long, healthy live -- I believe they were both -- or close to -- being twenty years old.
This particular bird was blinded in an accident after a fight with her mate. She is now given the best of care by her keeper who brings her around and educates the public about the plight of the species.
The bond between keeper and bird is very evident here. I got to pet her, she's a doll.
Despite the lack of mane, Jerroh is a (neutered) male! He is seven years old and is the biggest cat at the Toronto Zoo. He is even larger than the male Siberian Tiger, Tonghua.
Taken on December 24th, 2007. These guys (well, girls), are among my favorite animals at the Toronto Zoo. In many ways, they remind me of my Shiba Inu dog, Suki.
