If you mean the grey-breasted conures (Pyrrhura griseipectus) they have been bred at Chester since 2011 when 4 were reared. In 2012 they reared 2.1 with 1 chick DNS. This year they have bred 8.

And Chester's 2011 breeding was not even a UK first, although I first thought that it was.

Has anybody else seen the Channel 5 series 'Animal Maternity' which was on again last night . Most of the stories feature births at UK zoos . A few weeks ago the birth of a calf to black rhino Zuri at Chester was featured .

On the preview for next week it promises a story about how Chester is working to try to save its elephant calves from the deadly herpes virus .

( Last night featured the recent birth of twin Amur tigers at Banham , interesting to see the male wander in to the den during the birth process . Also a Banham hand-reared Ruppells' vulture transferred to the flock at Colchester , and the latest litter of smooth-coated otters at Colchester ) .

Yes, I've been watching, although I haven't seen last night's episode yet. It was particularly interesting to see Zuri giving birth after following her mother Sita's pregnancy and Zuri's own birth at Paignton online. I think her son managed to stand up faster then she did herself, but at least Sita didn't sit on her

According to the Chester FB page, the new exhibit in the Tropical Realm is now finished and has the following species on display:

Serrated casquehead iguana (Laemanctus serratus)
Mission golden-eyed Tree Frog (Trachycephalus resinifictrix)
Blue poison dart frog (Dendrobates azureus)
Golden poison frog (Phyllobates terribilis)

Visited today and noticed that the bush dogs are now in the first indoor jaguar enclosure. Also was disappointed that no guidebook is available still.

Nice that they have at last moved the Bush Dogs, its been talked about for awhile.

People keep saying about no new guidebook,in fact some of us have even brought it up at the AGM,and the zoo has just replied that it doesn't fit with the current plans!personnaly I have given up on ever seeing a new guidebook for Chester Zoo.

They did look good in the exhibit, is it their permanent home?

very disappointed about the guidebook situation , it makes no sense not to have one.

Both the tiger cubs and cheetah cubs were active today was great to see.

Perhaps all the people who want a guide book could email the marketing manager and ask why there isn't one.

I think the zoo are losing a lot of money by not selling one.

So, the first steps towards also clearing out and making the Chester Backyard a reality is one step closer to becoming reality.

Nice the bush dogs now in the South America realm proper ...

at chester today and there are still 2 bush dogs in their original enclosure, looked like a male and female.

Also saw a Male Von Der Deckens in Tsavo Aviary

So what's the deal with the jaguars now? Are they going to keep them in the waterfall side and give the other half of the house to the bush dogs? Or will they rotate the two species and allow the dogs intermittent outside access?

Does that mean the two Jaguar pairs will now share the other (waterfall) side? If so it must mean the two pairs alternating between the inside and outdoor displays, unless they have cut them to one pair....

There is only one pair of Jaguars now and one singleton.
Goshi & Napo are in the Waterfall side and Sophia is on her own in the Jaguar Cafe side - she obviously does not have access to the indoor bit where the Bush Dog Batchelors are as they would rapidly decline in number - but the noises they were making were providing oodles of free enrichment for her as she was trying really hard to get in and see what was going on in her den!!

The first and third are in the large vivarium, the second and fourth in the smaller one. ZG and I saw 3 iguanas in a very hard to spot them place.

The pathway between the bongos and miniature monkeys was closed, I don't know why.

The amphibian pod in the Tropical Realm has now got a covering of wooden cladding, it looks nice.

In the aquarium the axolotl tank is empty and a label on the glass says new exhibit coming soon.

Nothing more to say really, there is not a lot happening at the zoo.
