the cattle house is currently closed, with a sign saying updating enclosure blah blah blah, but the keeper that told me the above info told me that he does have free access to the outside area.

Black Lion Tamarins have now got outdoor access, so they are much easier to spot. The Indian Rhino calf is also being given access to part of the outdoor exhibit for a few hours each, day, I was unable to catch a glimpse on my lunch break though.

Just popped to the zoo with the little ones, and the zoo definitely needs to advertise the fact more that's its no smoking, except in the areas designated, lost count of the number of people, but in there defence it's very poorly signed to say they shouldn't, ok rant over, on a positive, did see the anteaters outside at last, after a lot of visits and no luck

After visiting again this summer, when it was too hot to actually stand and watch the animals. The Mrs has had the idea of going again in October over the week of our anniversary.

Could anyone offer any insight into how busy the zoo is, etc.

One thing we noticed this summer was the amount of colour around the zoo in the flower beds and gardens. It was lovely to see it again. Really stood out and was noticable all the way around the zoo.

As for smokers, it seemed worse this summer than in previous years.

Very sad news.

Both of them passing away is so cruel to both the herd and the keepers at Chester.

So that's Raman, Jamilah and now possibly Nayan all in a few years.

Devastating events.

Hopefully the guys at Glasgow Uni can come up with something in the next couple of years that may help Hari and Bali.

Not again...:( Interestingly it confirms that Jamilah died of the Herpes Virus, as was obviously suspected on here. It seems fairly obvious that Nayan has succumbed similarly now. These calves seem to suddenly become ill for a few days, sometimes rallying but then followed by a rapid death. The list of Asian calves lost to it within the UK just becomes longer.

Incidentally, who are 'Hari' and 'Bali' ?

The two calves born into the Hi Way family of elephants over the winter - closely related to Nayan and Jamilah.

So sad that in recent years Tunga is the only youngster to have made it through the vulnerable period.

Completely forgot about Sundara. Which is probably a good thing as it means she's alive and well.

Really sad I was there today and someone said that one of the young elephants had died
I was hoping it wasn't true but it seems it is

not bothered by the smokers if they do it away from the enclosures
