The Hawk Owl is the first chick to be reared (and by the parents). They have progressed from infertile eggs, to fertile eggs that faield to hatch to hatching and rearing.

Great thread of great breeding results of a great zoo ! Esp. the 30 Baer's pochards are an important result for this very rare duck ! The same is true for the Grey-breasted conure.
Checked the International Zooyear Book 1984 breeding results for Wart-hog-breeding and only 6 collections bred it in that year: 2 German and 4 Russian zoos bred it and not a single UK collection !

I'm pretty certain that warthogs were not kept in the UK in 1984.

When Marwell imported some - I cannot remember the exact year, but possibly the late 1980's, there had not been any in the UK for a number of years.

Marwell imported warthog in 1999 from Rotterdam Hercules who has just died and Zina from Antwerp who is also now dead.Have AGReport from 1984 Chester to present day no warthog till Chester brought them in in 2005,when did Chester have them in the past ? and have they ever bred them ?

Thanks, I hadn't realised they had bred so well in the past. Maybe because they were fairly well hidden in the old bird house aviaries. They are definitely one of the stars of the Tsavo aviary

Sorry,Rob, but there was a male warthog at Whipsnade Zoo in 1984; I believe it was the animal previously kept at the foot of the Mappin Terraces at London Zoo.

So after he died that would have left the UK warthogless until Marwell's came in 1999.
