I reckon it's something of an exaggeration to call some of those recent losses 
given the fact that only four of them left the collection within the last five years, and three left almost a decade ago.
It is also worth bearing in mind that in the last decade, only one hoofstock arrival has since left (Lesser Kudu) whilst the following species are still present:
Red Natal Duiker (which has left the collection and then returned twice)
Visayan Warty Pig
Balabac Chevrotain
Indian Muntjac
Javan Banteng
Lowland Anoa
Kirk's Dik-dik
Indian Rhinoceros
Malayan Tapir
In other words we have more ungulate species at Chester than we did in 2007

I've said it before and I'll say it again, bring back some greater vasa parrots. I don't suppose they really fit in with the collection plan, although there might be some justification for finding them a corner in the new Malagasy area. But I always found them such interesting birds to watch and you can't really say that there are currently too many parrot species on view at Chester (note the diplomatic Yuletide phrasing 
).

As it's the last day of the year, I'll bite the bullet and ask my last two questions
1) biggest birth (this must have occurred in 2017 so the births of the tuatara and spotted deer which we did not find out about until this year do not count as they occurred last year)
2) your favourite moment at the zoo this year when you visited.

1) Bermuda skinks or Montseny newts.
2) Seeing the sun bears play fighting and Toni trying to mount Milli. My sister recorded this and when we watched the video back we realised some kid was calling them gorillas...

1 - Love the Baby Andean Bear, so cute.
2 - Got to see the gorgeous Kirsten (Aardvark keeper) from Secret Life Of The Zoo when I was visiting earlier in the year, and was chatting to her about the Aardvarks who are so cute!
Important as the off-show breedings are, the speccy bear cub has to be the best.
My best moment was when one of the Javan green magpies hopped onto a bare branch and I could see it clearly, after quite a few minutes of listening to assorted whistles, chatters and burbles with occasional glimpses of green flashes among the plants at the back of the aviary.

My favourite birth although they’ve not been seen yet are the painted dogs. However I am a carnivore lover so I may be being slightly biased. My favourite moment has to have been seeing the lions fighting over a full carcass in there enclosure or seeing goshi swimming in SOTJ
My favourite birth, is a little bit of a cop out tie between 3 animals: Bermuda skinks based on the fact it's a world first, Madidi the Andean bear for being a main land U.K. First and being utterly adorable and of course the continued success with the Javan green magpie one of the rarest birds in the world.
My favourite moment is again a tie, either turning the corner to see the tapirs and giant anteater, to instead be taken in awe by an adorable little bear climbing with its mother, or experiencing a fully fledged islands and all it's new species (having been in 2015 and seeing a lack of species)
