A few upcoming exhibits in Belgium and the Netherlands I am fairly excited about:
Zoo Planckendael:
- New bonobo building (new, much larger indoor housing for the existing bonobo group)
- Barbary macaque exhibit (new exhibit and new species)
Both exhibits are, to my knowledge, set to open somewhere this summer. I am going to attend a preview of the new bonobo building for zoo members at the end of June.
Zoo Antwerpen:
- New parrot aviaries with macaws, amazons and swift parrots. They will be housed in a reconstruction of the old (1850's!) bird of prey aviaries that will include original elements like the rocks and stone masonry as well as a reconstruction of the old cage structures, together with a modern building for the indoor housing.
Set to open this summer as well, to my knowledge. No official confirmation though that I know off.
GaiaZoo:
- Flamingo aviary with a whopping group of 400 greater flamingos to be transferred from Walsrode. They have announced the opening is planned on June 6th.
