I like indris. I've seen them in the wild and they do have haunting cries. They are the only species in their genus, but not the only ones in their family.

Yes, I also remember your comment on seeing these in the wild in my other lemur thread and feeling quite jealous of it :p (hope I get to see one in the wild too one day)

Very true, the indri is listed quite highly as an EDGE species by ZSL EDGE and make it to 20. Incidentally, it is curious that its scientific name is Indri Indri too.

They do indeed have haunting cries and I wonder if this characteristic has added to the mythology about them being ghosts of ancestors that many Malagasy peoples once held etc.

According to ZTL and my memory, the collection at that time included the following:
Fork-crowned lemur (Phaner furcifer): This is the only time I saw the species
......
Northern giant mouse lemur (Mirza zaza): I don't remember this one
.....
Red-tailed sportive lemur (Lepilemur ruficaudatus): This is the only time I saw the species in captivity

And of course, in 1993 (the year the Sportive died off) the collection briefly held all three of these *and* Hairy-eared Dwarf Lemur.
