3 Palms is a small local zoo in Clayton Delaware, about 15 minutes south of Dover. All animals at 3 Palms are rescues - a combination of injured wildlife, owner surrenders, and other captives that found their way there via rescues, etc.

The zoo has been around a couple of years now and is gradually getting bigger. I believe it started as a fancy gardens place. They started helping rescue local injured birds and then began adding reptiles and mammals when they could afford them and had people with enough experience to help with their care.

They're primarily focused on local education, especially at the child level. Almost all of the domestic species can be fed and/or pet, and they do a lot of visits to schools.

Most of the exhibits are stand-alone with basic fencing. Some of the birds and turtles are now arranged into small exhibits, like the Southeast Asia Aviary and Coastal North America.

Apparently one of their llamas is named Twin due to being born on September 11, 2001. How ballsy.

Also, due to storm damage, the zoo moved to another location.

I completely missed that they were moving. Based on comments on their facebook, the new place has larger enclosures. It's supposed to be open soon.
