Sydney Zoo $36 million zoo with roaming African animals planned for Blacktown

For those of you interested in a job, I read a couple of days ago they are beginning to hire senior keepers.

Does anyone know where the gorillas are coming from?

Latest video on construction update, for March:

When initial plans were announced three and half years ago, I’ll admit I was doubtful anything would actually come from them. The idea of a zoo featuring so many species of megafauna just being built from scratch seemed like a free form game of Zoo Tycoon come to life.

However, it is clear this zoo will be going ahead and they’ve made significant progress on construction of new exhibits. In my opinion, they’ve achieved more in 12 months than Australia Zoo has in the last decade.

Featherdale Wildlife Park have alleged that “Sydney Zoo's marketing activities constitute a breach of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act.”

Featherdale's concerns prompted it to lodge a court action in December, seeking evidence of Sydney Zoo's brochures, pamphlets and posters, records of its communications with tour operators and travel agents, information about its Aboriginal Heritage Experience Strategy, its proposed pricing structure and any documents relating to "the amount and type of Australia species and exotic species planned for the zoo".”

Sydney Zoo’s efforts to resist this request were unsuccessful with the matter returning to court on Friday.

I’m hoping at least some information will be made publicly available as a result, relating to the species held at the Sydney Zoo (including sources and numbers if we’re lucky). Aside from a basic map, which has changed direction with the wind, they’ve been very secretive to date as to what will be actually held there; with us all left to make educated guesses as to what they will hold.

I haven't found this to be the case at all:

As can be seen earlier in this thread, I was curious about which species of monkey was displayed on their map - so I sent them an email asking about it, and they replied within 24 hours. Their reply was open and honest. They said that it would be a New World primate species (ie a monkey species) but they weren't sure which species yet.

I think that if people want to know what species they will be displaying, just do what I did and send them an email and ask! There is no reason why they wouldn't tell you - and if they don't know yet then they will say that they don't know.

That's my experience anyway....

A post on the zoos Facebook ("Mini Zoo Keepers") indicates that the Tiger's will be coming from Dreamworld. Which species (Sumatran or hybrids) isn't clear

Do we know where the new Sydney Zoo at Blacktown will be sourcing their elephants? Will new elephants be imported from overseas or will they be using existing stock in the Australasian region.

They are supposed to be from within Australia, but it has changed a couple of times so I'm not sure of the current plan for them.

Wikipedia says this zoo is going to house saola?
What?
Can someone explain?
Do they mean anoa or are they just crazy?

Otherwise it sounds like a legendary zoo. Hippos, manatees, gorillas, tigers, lions, cheetahs, elephants... WOW
And also bull sharks which aren't exactly common in captivity :)
