Zoos that I have read about, seen photos of in numerous books and here on this site, and for the sheer number and variety of species exhibited there. Here are 5 that I really want to see someday, in no particular order:

New York Bronx
Singapore
Berlin
Sydney Taronga
Washington DC Smithsonian

Vienna
Cincinnati
New York Bronx
Singapore Jurong

1.) San Diego Zoo

1. Minnesota Zoo (Russian Grizzly Coast, northern species exhibits along monorail, tigers)

As pointed out by Tim May in the 5 Must See Species Before You Die Thread, these topics have been dealt with before. So now we must limit our list to "5 Must See" this time.

There are probably some damn good international zoos I'm not thinking of:

Bronx
Singapore
San Diego
Berlin
ASDM

EDIT: Such as Rotterdam (That is a zoo, right?)

Wow, this is really hard...

Bronx Zoo
Berlin (not sure about Tierpark or Zoo)
Singapore Zoo
Leipzig Zoo
Woodland Park Zoo

My 5 in no particular order:-
Plzen
Prague
Rotterdam
Berlin
San Diego

its interesting, but not particularly surprising, that the same zoos keep appearing in most peoples' choices. Its also interesting to consider how different some of these choices would be from that of a "general public" answer (eg I doubt Plzen would feature!)

To be fair I don't think Prague would be that popular with "the general public" either, even though it's more well known than Plzen! Just my opinion but the Czech Republic seems to be a favourite of stag & hen do's, not really groups of zoo enthusiasts as a general rule! :p

I am not familiar with the Plzen Zoo. Can somebody explain what the main attractions are there and/or what makes the zoo a destination that zoo nerds want to visit?

I’m fortunate enough to have visited many of the zoos that others have in their lists of places they want to visit. (Berlin; Rotterdam; Prague; New York (Bronx); San Diego; Vienna etc).

I think that the five zoos that I’ve not seen that I would most like to visit are:-

• Plzen (and I will be visiting there later this year)
• Moscow
• Poznan
• Wroclaw
• Cincinnati

Plzen zoo has a massive mammal collection, 200+ species of which 80% or so are a zoochatters dream! :)
Also the exhibits seem to be average to great. I've not visited but from various reviews and what i've read and seen on here it's a definite must see for zoo geeks like us! :D
