1)Denver zoo
2)Minnesota zoo
3)Memphis zoo
4)Omaha Henry Doorly zoo
5)Point Defiance zoo/Northwest Trek Wildlife Park

If you asked me this a week ago my list would've appeared like this:-
-Bronx Zoo
-San Diego
-Singapore Zoo
-Woodland Park Zoo
-Rotterdam Zoo

But in that time I've visited Rotterdam so I get an extra place which I'll fill with:-
-Prague Zoo

And did Rotterdam live up to expectations?

I'm somewhat surprised that Denver has made it on twice. Not saying it isn't a good zoo, but most of the exhibits are old and out dated. Even though it is one of my home zoos and I support whatever decision they make, I do think it needs some major improvements. I guess it will be even better once Asian Tropics opens! :D

@pacarana: The reason why i have denver in my top 5 is for 2 reasons. first being the brand new Asian Tropics exhibit. when this opens in june this will be hands down the best asian exhibits in the u.s maybe even in the world. and second the variety of animals at that zoo from the aye-aye to mishmi takin. And also my fav animal the polar bear. It seems that zoo produces alot of polar bear cubs.

Berlin
Berlin Tierpark
Dvur Kravlove
Burger's
Leipzig

Interesting to see how many list Cincinnati. It seems to be a zoo that gets dumped on quite a bit in the US forums, and sometimes with good reason. Still, there are many reasons to visit, and it's evident that Zoochatters across the pond agree.

1.Bronx Zoo
2.Singapore
3.Schonnbrun
4.Berlin
5.Askania Nova

The reason I chose the Denver Zoo was the prospect of the Asian Tropics exhibit. I would love to visit the zoo after it is completed.

I would include Cincinnati because of Sumatran rhinos.

These are not in any particular order:
Singapore Zoo
Jurong Bird Park
Walsrode Bird Park
Bronx Zoo
Berlin Zoo
These are mostly based off of collections, however. There are several others I'd really like to see (Koln, Twycross, Gladys Porter, etc) but these would probably be the top 5.

Columbus
Omaha
Plzen
Basel
Kolmarden

*Reserving the right to swap in the new zoos in Saint Petersburg, Paris, and Singapor River Safari at a later time!

I'd like to ask about Rotterdam appearing a few times. I'll be in Amsterdam for 48 hours next month and was just going to check out Artis since it's walking distance. Is Rotterdam significantly better?

Yes, Denver Zoo does have a nice collection but they no longer have mishmi takin and haven't bred Polars Bears for a while now, but still has some good exhibits and great animals. The only problems I have with the new Asian Tropics is:

1 - The lawns for the Elephants/rhinos/ and tapirs are very small. Some of them are the same size as the existing elephant and tapir exhibits.

2 - The fishing cats and otters will be inside permanently! This wouldn't mater that much if fishing cats didn't skink really bad and I guess I'm just used to seeing otters outside.

3 - With the new advanced clouded leopard enclosure being built I feel that Denver's doesn't fit the bill. Its not very big four a rotating group of four ( maybe more in the future ) and not very tall either.

Now, I have only seen these from above and on the outside of the exhibit but I feel they may have over exaggerated the actual size of the enclosures when they set out the plans. I really do like the zoo though. Especially since its my home zoo.:)

One thing that annoys me the most is when zoos list animals on there webpage and that don't have the species anymore. I mean it's like come on people get with the program. I thought zoo's hire people for that position. To update us on events, happenings, new animals etc... thks pacarana for the update of the mishmi takins. thats sad that theyre not there anymore.
