Houston Zoo $50 Million African Forest Exhibit

Yes, I see the video link inside your quote of me, but I cannot see it on my original post. I am not a techo person, so this may be a stupid guess, but could it be that only people who have a YouTube account and are logged in can see it initially? (I do NOT have an account with them).

I've had similar problems with YouTube in the past as well. I'm also minus an account with them.
 
Greater Kudu are in: Greater Kudu Antelope - Houston Zoo

Article says "Adult male" and "females." No clue what the actual count is beyond that. Does confirm they will be exhibited with the rhinos.

Still waiting on official word regarding ostrich. Shame the member visit is not next weekend when I'm in town for Thanksgiving. Guess I'll have to wait for X-mas break to see it.
 
Scratch the idea of them with the rhinos. That's where the Kudu are. Now I'm confused.

Eventual new exhibit. Ostrich in with giraffe, Kudu with Rhinos. Besides those rhino are a breeding group, you think a cheetah will go in with a calf?

A zoo in Sweden has premiered the exhibition of rhinos with cheetah. The rhinos cannot cross part of the exhibit where the night quarters and some outside area is for the cheetah.

Cheetah - as you may know - are not able to even hunt a rhino calf.
Too big by two halves :D

Exhibits are huge from appearances in the video. For those that don't know, Houston is VERY flat and all the rock outcroppings as walls are added. The medical center and a busy road is immediately on the left of the videographer as he's walking through, so that's part of the reason for the high rock walls.

I should see it in about 1.5 weeks. I really want to see that rhino/kudu exhibit.
 
I will be there bright and early Monday morning for the first ZooChat inspection. Here's hoping it is better than I expect.
 
So, surprise! New Cheetah exhibit has opened. It's not officially part of the African Forest, but it's in the same area and is in between the new giraffe barn and the lions. jbnbsn99 told me about it yesterday, and Houston Zoo jsut put up a press release about it saying it is the same size. I'd love to see some pictures of it.

So according to the web link, the cheetahs are sometimes on exhibit with an anatolian shepherd dog. I assume they are used to each other and are "buddies." But the purpose of displaying the dog is to tell people how they are used in parts of Africa to protect livestock by chasing away cheetahs.

So they are teaching people how these dogs chase cheetahs away by having one live with cheetahs who are not at all scared of it. Am I the only person who thinks this makes no sense?
