well I started this thread to ask questions on all zoos in the uk

ill start with marwell

in 1992 the okapi was housed in the giraffe house, what was there outside paddock?

when there was only 1 persian leopard left, why did they move it away from the main leopard house into a sperate enclosure? Also, was there no attempts to get a new Persian Leopard for company?

Did Marwell ever Breed Black Rhino, and when they tradgcly died, was there no attemps to replace them?

Where did Marwells Caracles move to?

what do you guys think of the Heart Africa enclosures?
I prefered the old Bongo one because it had more grass and more trees, and made it feel like you were in the african forest, with Okapis occuping the opposite paddock. However, the Congo Buffalo paddock is a huge improvement! Now they have grass, and a separate pen for the bull. Still though, it is not idal for a forest creature.

And finally one from Edinburgh

What antilope species ocupie the paddock on the map stated as "Antilope"?

This thread is not Just for Marwell and Edinbugh, its for all of the UK zoos far and wide.

couple more marwell questions

Do they still have Blue Duiker off display?

What happened to the Arabian Gazzelle?

Was looking through some of my pictures earlier when i came across one of the pudu and its enclosure and remeberd someone saying that the pudu will be moved, so just wondering whats happened to the Pudu and what will be put in its place in the enclosure? Also what species of Kudu do they have?
And does anyone have a copy of the masterplan if there is one? If so could you PM me? Would be quite interesting!

Regards, PK

Marwell never bred Black Rhino. Their pair came from London and Whipsnade and were half brother and sister(same father, different mothers) They were called Kes & Katie. They died before they were mature. Marwell then moved over to White Rhinos, most likely because there weren't any other Black Rhino available at the time to replace the first pair.

Catman-when you ask a lot of questions all at once, its easy for some of them to get overlooked and so you don't get as many answers as you might otherwise...;)

The antelope paddock mentioned is for a small group of addax, and species in the monkey house are;
drill
aye-aye
black howler monkey
purple faced langur
Hamlyn's monkey
Diana monkey
yellow breasted capuchin
L'Hoest's guenon

I do like the species line-up in that house; it says something when Black Howler Monkey is probably the most common species in the line-up...

in 1992 the okapi was housed in the giraffe house, what was there outside paddock? Presuming you mean where, it was on the other side of the house. Congo Buffalo occupied it when the okapi moved to the Forest Herbivores complex until the Into Africa renovation in 1999. Most of the old site is now the colobus/diana monkey enclosure.

when there was only 1 persian leopard left, why did they move it away from the main leopard house into a sperate enclosure? Also, was there no attempts to get a new Persian Leopard for company? There was only enough room for a breeding pair of amur leopard in the new enclosure. Sita was going to join a male at another collection but she died before this could occur.

That's not a question, it's a remark of opinion.

I'd add that it probably is much preferable if you ask questions in separate threads rather than have one thread "to ask questions on all zoos in the uk". That way also, other forum users can easily find out the answers to questions they are wondering about rather than them being buried in one massive thread.

Cat man could you please explain why you feel the need to have a dedicated thread for people to ask any question about any zoo? Surely that's the point of the entire forum. If someone has a specific question, they post and ask it. If someone knows the answer, they post a reply. Thats how a forum works. A single thread containing a multitude of unrelated questions is ridiculous.
