A different alphabet game

T it is.
The animal I'm thinking of beginning with T is found in Asia. Traditionally considered 1 species - but may well be up to 4 distinct ones. Its various ecotypes have rather distinct pelage.
This mammal is kept in several zoos within Europe and North America, though in the UK has been rather stagnant in recent years.
Can you guess the animal I have in mind?

2 species are Endangered
2 species are Near Threatened
