I think I need to give this question some more thought. I confess that I had overlooked the aye-ayes going on show (which was stupid).
Now that reminds me about the butterfly barbs, which I have a very soft spot for. I hope to visit the zoo again before Xmas, so I will have to check how they have settled in before I can make my final decision. This is worse than Xmas shopping
Alright It seems the general consesus here is the Cloud Rats are by far peoples fav's, this one should be slightly easier and broader to answer, especially for you Veteran Chester zoo visitors! So The question is :Best animal to make a return to the collection this year (Either on or off show no fuss as long as we can prove it was in the zoo before. I'm sure photos and Bongorob can help with that.)

Sorry have to disagree that the Cloud Rats were the most interesting new addition in the zoo,for me it has to be the Black-breasted Leaf Turtles going on-show.
I suppose I'll start this one then, despite not visiting the zoo for years and never seeing it post 2000, I know of some species that the zoo has brought back to its collection. My personal favourite as I know so Few would be the Bintoroung which just fascinates me as a species ever since I first heard of it.
And not a bad one of course, they seem to be a lovely species.
Ok the new species conversation has become very dry, So I wish to open the floor to a new question. What is the best development this year at the zoo? (These are things in the zoo that have built upon in, note Islands part 2 can qualify as it is being done this year, anything being built this year for the future will count, if you all get the statement)
I was still thinking about the previous question, having gone out of my way to check the butterfly barbs on Saturday (they are looking very nice, particularly as the tank in the Okapi House seems to have better illumination now, perhaps because the elephant-nosed fish have been taken out).
However, much as I love primates, little fishes and clumsy, hairy creatures, I am going to relegate the aye-ayes, butterfly barbs, mudskippers and cloud rats, in favour of the black-breasted leaf turtles. I would previously have said that a cute turtle was a contradiction in terms, but the little chap who posed for me on Saturday has won me over.
I don't see how I can judge the things that are still being built, so I would nominate the new aquarium displays as the best development this year - particularly the reglazing and renewal of the old Malawi cichlid tank for the pin-striped damba.

See I thought the same thing, the new aquarium feels and looks new and modern.
For someone so active on the Chester Zoo forums, I'm surprised you've not visited for sixteen years!
