A riddle wrapped in a mystery inside an enigma . . . a new Photo Quiz.

The World Cup has reminded me of Churchill's famous phrase about Russian policy. This new Photo Quiz is based on the same principle.
The enigma: can you name the 16 species of animal in the photos? In keeping with the three-fold nature of this puzzle, each image is triangular and shows two eyes and at least one nostril. This means that species without eyes or without nostrils are not included - so no cave fishes or gannets. Be careful with the names, you will need to be up-to-date as one of these animals has had its name changed recently.
The mystery: can you find the names of two famous people which are hidden in the list of animals?
The riddle: what is the strange connection between these two people?
I have tried to play fair; a few of the animals are quite easy to identify, some are harder but I hope they are all distinctive. I wouldn't want to be responsible for creating a cross ticked-off ZooChatter, so be warned that some puzzle-solving skills and general knowledge (or research skills) will help.

'Some sort's can't be good enough and nothing here is domestic. You will need to do more work to reach the next part.

1 - Red-footed tortoise
2 - Amazon milk frog
3 - Diana monkey
4 - Stump-tailed macaque
5 - Boa constrictor (?)
6 - Bearded emperor tamarin
7 - William's electric blue gecko
8 - This one weirdly seems familiar but none of my suppositions fit, I will go with Palawan peacock-pheasant
9 - Unfortunately, my fish identification skills are very limited
10 - Iberian wolf
11 - Chinese water deer
12 - Red-fronted parakeet
13 - Great blue turaco
14 - Jaguar
15 - Comoro flying fox
16 - Bharal

This is all I can get for the mystery so far, I'm really not that good when it comes to riddles though. :P

You've made good progress, but you are not fully correct as you know. I have scattered a few clues and hints in this thread to help people move forward when they think they are stuck. Can you pick any of them up?

1. Red-footed tortoise
2. Amazon milk frog
3. Roloway monkey
4. Stump-tailed macaque
5. Reticulated python
6. William's electric blue gecko
7. Emperor bearded tamarin
8. Palawan peacock pheasant
9. Discus
10. Iberian wolf
11. Chinese water deer
12. Red-fronted parakeet
13. Great blue turaco
14. Jaguar
15. Livingstone's fruit bat
16. Scimitar-horned oryx

So what would link Dr. Livingstone an Ernest Williams :p

lintworm has identified many of the species accurately, but there are still some errors. The Livingstone/Williams coupling is ingenious and relevant in a way, but the two hidden persons are more famous than they are (and more famous than Kaiser Bill or Franz Josef or any Amazon - even Hippolyta herself :D).

My guess would have been:

I. Geochelone carbonaria (red-footed tortoise)
II. Trachycephalus resininfictrix (amazon milk frog)
III. Cercopithecus diana (diana monkey) (including roloway subspecies, that maybe is the recent name change that you told)
IV. Macaca arctoides (bear or stump-tailed macaque)
V. Eunectes murinus (green anaconda)
VI. Lygodactylus williamii (electric blue gecko)
VII. Saguinus imperator (emperor tamarin)
VIII. Polyplectron napoleonis (Palawan peacock-pheasant)
IX. Symphisodon discus/aequifasciatus (discus fish)
X. Canis lupus (Common or grey wolf)
XI. Not sure on this one. Obviously a deer, but which one? My vote will go to Odocoileus virginianus (white-tailed deer) but I'm unsure.
XII. I must be fair, seeing the image I tought in Glossopsitta concinna (musk lorikeet), but I can't avoid read slightly over the answers given by other zoochatters and now I realize that it's a red-fronted kakariki as they said. I must keep my erroneous vote
XIII. Corythaeola cristata (great blue turaco)
XIV. Panthera onca (jaguar). Doubted a bit about leopard, but finally I decided jaguar.
XV. Pteropus livingstonii (Livingstone's fruit bat)
XVI. The most difficult to me. Pseudois nayaur (blue sheep or Bharal) is what convinve me more, but I'm absolutely unsure.

About famous people, sorry but I don't know practically none in the world.

Much the best answer so far: 12 species named correctly and 1 easily corrected. Well done!
I think you will know these names ;)

Hints and clues. There are several hints and clues in the first post in this thread. Let me underline a couple.
The test is as fair as I can make it, so how can the answer be a species with two names, Amazon milk frog or mission golden-eyed tree frog?
How can a species have had its name changed recently? Don't worry about the roloway monkey because Kakapo is correct, species iii is a Diana monkey (C. diana).
Why don't I want to create a cross ticked-off ZooChatter?

Finally may I point out that there are probably 3 species of discus fish. I chose the photo because it is possible to identify the species. I didn't say it was going to be easy ;), but it is quite possible.

In post 12 you said this

(and more famous than Kaiser Bill or Franz Josef or any Amazon - even Hippolyta herself :D)

And when combined with the DIANA monkey, and the AMAZON milk frog, I have to Wonder if one of the actors or actresses has played wonderwoman. Looking at the list, Gal Gabot played wonder woman most recently, so I'll go with her as one of the celebrities.

Apparently Keri Russell played Wonder Woman in 2009, and I recognized her name for some reason. I don't know if she's is more of celebrity

Are either of these (or both) what your looking for?

Or Chris pine was in wonderwoman, I don't know if he's a celebrity but I again recognize the name

I think it is more simple and obvious than that. I say the first celebrity is none other than Diana Prince herself, Wonder Woman.
