Visited today, despite the slightly dodgy weather. As useual the gardens were emaculate, with many flowers out, especally in the walled garden. a new white rhino bull "Monty" has arrived, and is still restricted to the newley renovated rhino house. They are still, i believe awaiting the two new females. Part of the huge white lipped peccery herd has been moved to a grassy area opposite the wolves. They can be viewed from ground level and from the raised wooden walkway. The owl aviries are being expanded, with the great greys being moved into the snowy old house for the time being. The purple faced langurs and white handed gibbons have also swapped enclousures.
In the invertibrate house, the new tree shrew (odd place to keep it!) was very acctive. There are also lots of turkish spiny mice in the bat house round the corner from the main bat house. Managed to see three jagurundi. Spent ages searching for a sloth in the tropical house, but eventually found it far at the back. Was'nt lucky enough to see the sifaka, who was hiding inside.
There still remains biulding work roud the back of "Madagascar", and some very well hidden biulding work round the back of the pheasant aviries.

All in all, another excellent day at the park!

Yes, theyre actually a lot smaller than i expected. Theyre in the large aviary with the hammerkops and the ibis.

The website says knowsley safari park. I only thought they were getting females, so breeding is a possibility now! Hope so.

Oops, nag, nag, nag, ...... (LOL) :D

Sorry to sound a bit boring: date of birth and full name and sire x dam at Knowsley? There is a few choices there and I cannot now think of any candidate ...!!!

Thanx,

rhino boffin par excellence ....

it also says the new bull(Monty) is two and a half years old. Maybe you can identify him from that....

I hate speculating and my data for births in 2005-2006 only show up these 3:
F Binta (b. 18/11/2005 born to BudxPiglet - current status unclear)
M Kifaru (b. 25/4/2006 born to BudxMeru) ... alas he is not 2,5 years of age, but the only one I can think off!!!!
F no name (b. 20/9/2006 bortn to BudxWinnie - current status unclear)

A transfer to the Prescott thread and some rigorous investigation might do the trick!

The new bull rhino (Monty) IS actually Kifaru from Knowsley. Knowsley usually move their bull rhinos on at around 3 years old.

I hate it where different collections change the names of new animals, Kifaru is a better sounding name!

Prescott/Knowsley SP website explaind they have had three rhino births in the last few months and that brings the herd to 10 animals.

That means there must be 1.0 adult male
0.3 adult females
1.2. subadult born 2005-6(as per your list above)
3 new calves. Total 10 animals.

So by elimination, the male now at Cotswold must be 3 year old 'Kifaru'- unless it is an unrelated male that passed through Knowsley.

Knowsley have 2 adult bulls, 'Bud' the breeding male and 'Sharka' who is to step into Bud's place in the future.

The females are Winnie, Meru and Piglet

The subordinate female is Binta (the other female born in 2006 died)

The 3 new calves are 'Flannery', 'Cara' and another male

Thanx for that but it still not fully clarifies the true identity of Monty!!!
Is he the male born at Knowsley in 2006 Kifaru?????

So do I, particularly when, as here, the original name is better. I wonder why they do this and whether the animal notices any difference- probably not- but its confusing for the likes of us....:(
