The Houston zoo has announced the world's first captive breeding of the Madagascan big headed turtle.
5 turtles have been hatched.

OK I'll be the first to say it, fantastic news! Especially if, as the article says, this is the eighteenth most endangered turtle in the world (I'll just assume that is true).

I tried to check the news item out. I suspect it is a world first for zoo facilities. Allthough, I am quite certain the first captive facility to breed them is the Ampijoroa station in Madagascar managed in part / supported by Jersey / Durrell Institute.
