A giraffe calf was born August 12:

Malakia the giraffe is now a first time mother.

This is Abilene Zoo's second baby giraffe to be born in 2022, and there are now 10 giraffes total, which ties with the old record.

Ten or more giraffes is often referred to as a "tower," and the previous birth of Makena in June helped make this growing number possible.

On August 16th, the zoo announced its gender, (1.0) as well as being the heaviest giraffe born in the zoo's history.

 
On August 17th, the zoo announced that a (0.0.1) Angolan colobus monkey was born on August 15th.

On January 24th, the zoo announced the monkey's gender (0.1) and name, Rizzo.

On January 25th, the zoo announced they moved their (0.1) bobcat named Gracie to a new exhibit in the Elm Creek area. Her former exhibit will be occupied by a new animal, though the facility has not specified what.

On February 28th, the zoo announced they have a new (1.0) Brazillian ocelot named Hunfredo which is now on exhibit next to Gracie the bobcat in Elm Creek.
