The Asian field exhibit will have a lot of potential, although focusing on species that aren't catastrophically invasive (nilgai, blackbuck) is probably a better choice. I'm wondering how exactly they are planning to incorporate okapi and pygmy hippopotamuses to this section. I am pretty sure Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge features okapi, so it can be done, but will definitely still be interesting. On September 21st, the zoo announced they have a new masterplan called A Bold Adventure, The facility acquired 22 acres for the project, which will be split up into 4 phases, with those being:
Phase 1 (Wild Encounters & Ferocious Eats): Expanded black rhino exhibit, new amphitheater and event lawn, new African mixed species exhibit (for giraffe and antelope), new 2-story cafe with attached African lion, slender-tailed meerkat, and cheetah exhibits.
Phase 2 (Playful Discovery): A 2nd African mixed species exhibit (same as in Phase 1), a solitary yard for the giraffes, a nursery building for species hatched at the Bird Hatchery.
Phase 3 (Passport to Exploration): Large multi-species exhibits covering 3 different continents (Asian Plains, African Safari, North American Plains) that are accessible either by train (goes throughout all the pastures) or a boardwalk (which will have covered shade, restrooms, and a snack area). 20 species planned, including okapi, sitatunga, bongo, oryx, wildebeest, pygmy hippo, blackbuck, greater kudu, nilgai, lechwe, and sable antelope.
Phase 4 (Growing Wild Minds): New education/animal ambassador building, new entryway, African penguin exhibit.
