There is no mention of any new Chimpanzees arriving though- or that this is imminent. Does anyone have any news on that?[/QUOTE]
There is some information in the latest edition of the lifelinks magazine. The chimps are an already established group and are arriving from Safari Beekes Bergen in the Netherlands. They are due early in 2010 but as someone else said the paperwork and health checks are proving a lengthly process.
The group consists of 5 males
Paul 16,Claus16,Feek 16,Rene 16,Bram 23
and 6 females
Edith 13 ,Eva 28,Heleen 18, Lianne 20,Sophie 28 and Pearl 40.
The existing group is currently being prepared for the new arrivals by getting them used to the fact that certain areas of the budongo trail will be shut off at various times but are responding well to the changes so far.
The eventual plan being to integrate the two groups and begin making a contribution to the breeding programme for western chimps.
Interesting times ahead then for this great exhibit.
