4-year-old male Southern White Rhinoceros "Hodari" has arrived at the BioPark from the Tulsa Zoo in Oklahoma as a companion for their older female rhino Bertha.
ABQ BioPark on Instagram: "Did you hear that? Another new face is *crashing* the party just in time for Boo at the Zoo…here’s a hint, a crash is a term for a group of rhinos! Say hello to young Hodari (pronounced Ha-Dar-ee), a southern white rhinoceros who will celebrate his fourth birthday next month. He recently moved to the ABQ BioPark Zoo from @tulsazoo in Oklahoma, a fellow facility accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA). True to his name, which means brave or courageous in Swahili, Hodari is ready to explore the rhino habitat after a brief acclimation period. Behind-the-scenes, he’s been getting along well with Bertha, also a southern white rhino, who has been a Zoo resident since 1998. She will soon be 40 years old, exceeding the median life expectancy for her species of 36 years, and has been preferring to spend her time indoors or in her private area. The zoo announced today that the baby hippo is a girl! The zoo is holding a naming competition on their Instagram to name the calf either Maisy, Magdalena, Chama or Pearl.

1 Gentoo Penguin has hatched.
ABQ BioPark on Instagram: "We have more egg-cellent news! Gentoo penguins Digit (female) and Killian (male), parents of Ike who hatched in 2022, have a new chick! The chick hatched November 3 and is currently being cared for by both parents in their nest in the Penguin Chill habitat. The baby may not always be easily visible as the parents must keep the chick under them to keep it warm. The penguin care team is providing extra support and diet to the parents, who feed the chick by regurgitating partially digested fish. The care team have inspected and weighed the little ball of fluff to ensure it's thriving, and Digit (orange wing bands) and Killian (tan wing bands) are doing a wonderful job! When the chick is old enough to start venturing out of the nest, the family will be moved behind the scenes where the chick can learn to swim in a smaller pool.
