Will be interesting if whipsnade takes them - they may not go into the on show enclosure of course or be visible to visitors as there is the off show lion quarantine area (near the hippos).

And by the time they had settled in I am guessing the repairs might be done so not a long stay perhaps.

Better for the lions to move - they won’t be having much fun confined to their house. 6 lions without exercise even for the customary 2 hours they actually get out of bed won’t be fun lions for the keepers.

There can’t be many zoos with lion spaces vacant and ready to take storm refugees.

The zoo is appealing for donations to fix the fencing so money may be a reason for some fix delay as well as the time needed to do the work.

Perhaps YWP could take them in there enclosures they would have the space given it was originally built for more lions than it currently have and the could call it a “ rescue mission “ . Doesn’t there insurance cover the repair work on the enclosure, if a tree fell on my house I would expect them to pay for it

I don't think that would work at YWP - they have three groups of lions, and three paddocks. So you'd again end up with a situation of lions being held off show in a confined space.

I know but was thinking they are more a collections custom to take it in animals on short notice and let’s be honest they have 3 pairs of lions rather than groups which I would think could be rotated for out door access for a short while. Just think it would be a better fit than Whipsnade as they just got there visitor used to the idea of no lion plus the costs involved
 
Howletts only have 1 Lion and 2 tigers now, they must have at least 2 empty enclosures?

It’s has been a good few years since new lions arrived at YWP so they aren’t really any more accustomed to taking lions quickly than anyone else these days. They split them between the paddocks for a reason so might have issues putting them back together.

To be honest not really clear on the reason why the idea of ‘getting visitors used to no lions’ would be relevant to taking lions in an emergency for a short period of cover.

The expense of taking them to Yorkshire or Bedfordshire or to the south of England will be high wherever they might go.

Guess they will talk to anyone with space who is prepared to accept them however.
 
Howletts have three lions , though the aspinal foundation have come to the rescue before

There were more than 2 Tiger enclosures before they all died off. 2 large ones in the main block and one maybe 2 smaller ones backing onto them. Then 2 more as you walk down the path from the entrance which held sumatran Tiger and lions last time I was there.

Now confirmed. Remaining two lions to Whipsnade until May.
