Really sad news announced on the park's socials this morning. Zuri, the eight month old cheetah cub, was put to sleep on Sunday 27 March due to congenital issues. Very upsetting for me personally as I had seen this adorable girl since she was two months old. May she rest in peace.

On April 9th an addax calf was born at Africa Alive. It is the first to be born at the zoo since 2017.

Been confirmed by whipsnade that the lions will return on 4th may.

The kings of the jungle - or Kessingland at least - can now enjoy a bark pit, two new raised platforms and a secondary holding yard to facilitate outdoor access for the Lions in bad weather.
In addition, the Kingdom of the Lion house has been completely redecorated and the visibility around the perimeter of the enclosure has been increased for visitors.

I noticed that page also links to a story about a breed of horse that is rarer than the Giant panda. Why is there so much fuss about the Suffolk Punch?
Presumably because they’re rarer than Giant pandas.
They’re an impressive horse and one I have fond memories of seeing in England as a child (while visiting Suffolk naturally), but when they’re no longer needed to fulfil their original purpose (working in the field), it’s clear why they’ve decreased in numbers.
If the keepers are lucky, they might bring them back a stick of rock.
Seriously though, it was an effective management strategy that benefited both zoos and allowed essential repairs to their exhibit (as well as renovations that will benefit the lions).
A Somali wild ass foal has recently been born at Africa Alive.

Rare Somali wild ass foal born at Kessingland Zoo in Suffolk
The foal, which has yet to be named, was born on Thursday to mother Calula and father Sahib.
Calula arrived at Africa Alive in 2007 from Basel Zoo in Switzerland, and has given birth to six foals, the last born in 2019. Two were sired by Sahib who arrived at the park in 2016 from Tierpark, Berlin.
