NZ's website has now gone beyond a 'watch this space' box into a full blown page about the two new developments:

As it turns out, warthogs are also planned to feature in the savannah enclosure, though it doesn't say anything about the Lechwe, Meerkats and Porcupines which are in the current african plains enclosure, soon to be the Phillipines.

it looks a big step for the zoo, the video was intersting, must make a note to visit here one day.

Indeed it is, considering it's one of those ten-acre 'nice' zoos. Seems that Whitley is giving it the push it needs, with the example it'll soon be only one of three UK zoos to keep warty pigs being just one small step. :)

so by the sounds of the article they're mixing warty pigs and the phillipine deer?

the enclosure isn't massive and i can't see the deer having much to hide behind and can see them curling up in the corner (near the maze) out of sight.

from the video looks like the viewing area is juist below the owls (i realise there isn't anywhere else really for it) i wonder how they will modify the current exhibit for the phillipine animals. :D i'm so exited, i know it isn't the biggest or best exhibit but its my own little special zoo and i love it (hence my excitement):D

If you heard the man correctly the Alfred's deer and Negros warty pigs are already at Newquay ... :D Any speculation as to source: deer ex Chester and pigs ex Rotterdam? :confused:

no i dont think they are. he said they'll be going into the tapir house which thye have rebuilt epecially. anyway my question still stands in that i wonder how the exhibit (current african exhibit) will be modified. sorry i haven't a clue were the pigs or deer are coming from, my guess is as good as yours.

oh and i didn't realise that phillipine deers are also known as Alfred's deer (thanks :o)

From their news section;

1.0 Deer and 2 Warty Pigs are from Poznan Poland.

0.1 Deer will come from Chester to make pair.

from the video the meerktas are moving to a diffferent enclousre at the top end of the zoo. does anyone know where?

I would suggest it is either up the top end by the Lynxs or at the top end of the African Savannah its self.

Update: The Zebra & Lechwe have moved into the Africa paddock, with a video of it on the site. Wildebeest, Waterbuck, Nyala and Warthog arriving later.
A phillipine spotted deer also gave birth.

See the news and video here.

White-tailed Gnu have arrived. 2.2 (from a Polish zoo - perhaps Katowice?). Nice to have them in the country again.
