Don't forget that the Jackson Zoo's two female elephants will leave to Nashville Zoo!
EDIT:What zoo is Vasha found?

Vasha is at DAK and has another female calf, Kianga. She was transfered from Dallas in 2000. Her pregnancy was confirmed through an e-mail with the elephant manager at disney! How exciting! I remember when she was in Dallas, she and Jenny did not get along at all! She seems to be flourishing at DAK! Is this Ali's second calf?

Why has Baba 20 not been placed in a AZA zoo like Ali (they both lived at neverland ranch)?

Also does anyone know who fathered Luna at DAK?

In regards to the old Asian elephant exhibit at the SD SP, I know they are connecting it to the African exhibit but is the second bull now living in that area yet?, also are they splitting the herd up into two herds or just rotating the females between the two areas?

@Mark: AD told me that SDWAP will be splitting up the herd as some of them are leaving to the Reid Park Zoo for Expedition Tanzania.
@Dallaspachyderm: Yes this will be Ali's second calf and I'm very excited! I don't know why Baba never left but Michael Jackson donated Ali to the Jacksonville Zoo.

Baba is actually at Serengeti Ranch with her companion Susie (24)
Two breeding age females at a private facillity? This doesn't seem what's best for the African elephant breeding program!
@Arizona: thank you! It's nice to know my years of stalking elephants is worth something somewhere!

Also I was wondering if the two females at the Lowrey park zoo, Mbali, and Martjeka, are going to be bred? They also came from Swaziland! In the O3' import.

According to elephant.se database Rosie and Juno have been transfered to Nashville. Although no articles can be found yet!

Somebody near Jackson Zoo said this as well, I'm glad that the Nashville Zoo's population will grow by 2 to make 4 total in a beautiful habitat.

Elephant Move A Success!

African Elephants, 'Juno and Rosie', longtime residents of the Jackson Zoo were transported to their new 'state-of- the-art' elephant habitat at the Nashville Zoo last week.

"The trip went as planned without incident" said executive director, Beth Poff. "We are so glad to hear that the elephants are adjusting quickly to their new home and have already begun to bond with their new herd mates and care takers".

The animals were transported via 18-wheeler tractor -trailer truck and accompanied by their keepers to assist with the adjustment once in Nashville.

Connie Philipp, director of animal collections at the Nashville zoo commented:

"The drive up from Jackson for both elephants went very well. They ate along the way indicating that they were very comfortable during transport. Both girls unloaded from the vehicles without any problems or injury. Currently, both Juno and Rosie are inside our elephant barn getting to know our two females, Sukari and Hadari. Our keepers are now working closely with Juno and Rosie to establish a close relationship. We hope to have all four together in our African Elephant Savannah habitat soon."

Rosy-41
Juno-30

In my opinion Asali (Memphis) should be transfered to Nashville. Because the habitat is so much more state of the art! Much more room for breeding. And if bred again, the habitat in Memphis is not suitable.

-The two yards have officially been connected at the SDSP. Giving their herd of 16 (soon to be 18) six acres!

-Male calf born to Litsemba
-Sdudla has been at Lowry park for quite sometime now, hopefully pregnancies in the three cows will follow
-Tamani being trained for the possible move to African elephant crossing
-Msholo begining to show interest in his new elephant ladies at the SDSP
-Through email with NC zoo, I found they are trying to get Tonga pregnant, now through AI, consulting experts!
-on the 16th the Reid park zoo broke ground on its new elephant enclosure!"EXPIDITION TANZANIA!"

Umngani-SDSP-fall
there very well be other expecting elephants, if you are aware of a female African either comment of PM me! Happy new year!

Busch Gardens and Lowry Park have had mixed species enclosures with elephants and antelope - Im sure there are plenty other examples. Though Lowry Park is the only current one I can think of.

But with Giraffe, ostrich, and impala? Never before done in the U.S. The giraffe are the species that makes it unique. Because the tallest land mammal and the largest land mammal will be side by side!

RWP Zoo kept their elephants with bongo when I visited years back. I agree that the giraffes mixed with elephants are interesting but personally I would like to see hippo, rhino or cape buffalo mixed with elephants. Lowry Park at one time wanted to mix the three large savannah yards (giraffe, elephants, rhino) into one large enclosure. That would have been an impressive mix
