African Elephants in Europe 2021

Hopefully Plaisance du Touch will get an experienced bull, but it will probably take some time.

Boten, which is not intended for breeding, will remain alone at La Flèche Zoo for several months before the zoo reconstructs its facility. Then another young bull joins him.

Somewhat sad Boten will be alone for so long, but in the grand scheme of things, it could be far worse.

Also it's nice to see Pembe has arrived so swiftly! I have no doubt Kito will be arriving soon enough as well.

I'm really very excited with how everything is going with the African population right now, there's been lots of transfers recently, and I'm very excited to see how things are looking a year from now.

A possible theory, perhaps when Tusker arrives in Valencia/in anticipation of him arriving, maybe Kibo will go to Toulouse? Considering he is known to be aggressive towards visitors, a drive through safari where people can't get close and are stuck in cars would suit him well.

Why hasn't Kibo sired any calves in Valencia, didn't he sire several calves while he was at Boras?

Yes, he sired 5 calves in Sweden. It seems to be something with the female composition that is preventing breeding in Spain.
It would be helpful if local managers and curatorial staff take the necessary steps to resolve the social cow issues that is preventing breeding. I am just a little exasperated TBH: We all know they have ... issues, why is not anything done?

It turns out that not only Tika (Tusker x Sabie) was mated by tusker she is expecting to give birth to his first calf in 2022 but also her mother Sabie was mated by tusker on the 17th of june

His head is massive compared to hers!!!

I must say, I do not think this is the first time they have mated? Somehow, she has not conceived as of yet.

The Knuthenborg Safari Park has announced that 43 year Nyoka arrived on Tuesday of this month I find this move very shocking as Nyoka was the long time matriarch of Boras breeding herd and she got along with the herds other adult female Dudu and her matriarchal clan, but since Nyoka moved to denmark is it in the realm of possibility that the Borås Djurpark can welcome back Dudu's eldest daughter Kwanza along with her daughter Kimani back as the video states that the reason for the move is to add more elephants to their breeding herd, and that she didn't get along with Yoga

That's why we're very excited to see if she can settle in the women's collective in the Elephants plain N 'yoka is moving from Borås Djurpark, where they need space for elephants to join the breeding

Whereas I do understand the need to move the older cow Nyoka out, I wonder how they plan on getting her daughter Kwanza and Kimani back. Is that not a station passed over?

Although I understand that zoos need more space for breeding groups, I feel sorry for older non-breeding elephants, such as N'Yoka or Drumbo, which are already well integrated into the herd and are leaving their home zoo after years to join new groups...

In my opinion, Boras has no plans to get Kwanza and her daughter Kinami back. After transporting Jack, Sostó will want to continue creating his own breeding group. Boras apparently needs more space for his current group.
