Ace :). I didn't think the wild dog enclosure would need planning permission though? They've already started work on it :confused:
 
Its more work going on the I thought there would be. Will be interesting to see when its done as I think due to it being within the zoo's current site(I class Heart Of Africa as a new site yet to be joined to the zoo - even though the Zoo own the land) that planning permission will be granted easily.

And yes they have already started working on it as this is the sign you see across the whole path when trying to walk from the Rhino house to where the Porcupines used to be kept before there move.

Ace, so you can still get to the rhino house?

Also, are any of the hoofstock now not visible because of closed paths (oryx, sitatunga, gemsbok, roan, lechwe, dik-dik?)
 
Yes you can still see/get to the Rhino house. You can walk down the path to where the junction in the path is so can see the outside paddock as well. And with regards to your second question I can't answer as I don't tend to visit that part of the zoo often.

I will say that on my brief visit today from the roundabout you can now see the wooden framework of a building near the boundary fence.

Ace, I'm going on the 4th (a week tomorrow) so will be able to check up on what is happening :)
 
When I last visited you could not get to the dik-diks or the Wetlands Aviary viewing hyde.
 
All of the hoof stock are on-show... well, the ones you'd normally see anyway, and as Rob mentions, the installation of new service pipes is complete adjacent to the Kirk's dik-dik and wetlands aviary, although that path is closed (and will be permanently) from where the monorail passes overhead, onwards.

The latest issue of Z (members and adopters magzine) is now out and confirms the following things...

The enclosure is expected to be ready for Easter and the grand opening is pencilled in for Wednesday 6th April 2011. Tony Fitzjohn (founder of the Mkomazi National Park in Tanzania) has been booked to do it. He will also be doing a members talk on the 5th April.

The dogs will be 0:0:8 from a collection in Sweden (ISIS lists Kolmarden as having 17:6 so they seem a likely source)
